Vision Sunday: Engaging with God’s Call

This past Sunday at Freedom Church Worcester, we gathered for something more than a normal service. It was Vision Sunday—a chance to look back on what God has done and look forward with faith for what’s to come.

From the very beginning, there was a sense of excitement in the room. Since our relaunch on June 1st, we’ve seen God move powerfully. But Vision Sunday wasn’t just about celebrating the past—it was about engaging with the future.

Engage: Our Word for the Year

Earlier this year, we declared our word of the year: Engage.

We committed to engage with:

  • Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the Father

  • Church growth and community

  • Evangelism, giving, serving, and helping

In short, to be Christians who actually follow Jesus. And already we’ve seen what happens when we take God seriously at His word.

When we create space, He fills it.

  • We opened a second building for kids. It’s already overflowing.

  • We launched Zeal Youth, which has grown to around 25 students—many whose parents don’t even attend our church.

  • We've created new midweek groups so that discipleship isn’t just for Sundays.

This is what engagement looks like in action.

From Sunday Christians to Everyday Disciples

One of the strongest challenges from Vision Sunday was this: we don’t want to be a church of Sunday-only Christians.

It’s easy to show up on a Sunday morning, tick the box, and feel like we’ve done our part. But true discipleship happens midweek—after a long day of work, when we choose to open our Bible, invest in our group, or disciple our children around the dinner table.

As we heard, research shows that reading the Bible four or more times a week increases discipleship in your life by over 200%. Imagine what that could look like in our church if we all leaned into God’s Word with that kind of consistency.

The Challenge of Evangelism

Vision Sunday wasn’t all comfort—it came with a challenge.

Pastor Jordan reminded us of Noah’s Ark. While the children’s song says, “everything was fine and dandy,” the reality was much more sobering. Outside the ark, people perished.

And in the same way, we’ve been given an ark—the church, salvation, the gospel. But what about those outside?

Revelation 20 reminds us of eternity—that some will spend forever with Jesus, and some will not. That’s why evangelism matters. That’s why we must invite, share, and live unashamed of the gospel.

Jesus himself said he leaves the 99 to go after the one. Who is your one? Who is the person in your life waiting for an invitation?

A Call to Unity

Pastor Saff then brought a powerful word on unity.

From Psalm 133: “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity… For there the Lord bestows his blessing.”

Unity isn’t just being polite to one another. It’s a deep, godly oneness rooted in forgiveness, generosity, and love. It’s the kind of unity that marked the early church in Acts 2, where no one was in need because everyone gave as they were able.

In Worcester, we believe God is calling not just Freedom Church, but the church in our city to walk together as one body.

Looking Ahead

As we move toward Christmas, we don’t want to be caught off guard. We want to posture ourselves with expectation, ready for God to move, ready to make an impact, ready to see lives changed.

There is more.

There are people behind our yes.

There is a call on us to engage, evangelise, and walk in unity.

So let’s not settle for being Sunday Christians. Let’s engage with all God is doing, create space for Him to move, and step boldly into the mission He has placed on Freedom Church Worcester.
