This Sunday, Saff continued our House on the Rock series, diving into the power of God’s Word and how it anchors us when life’s storms hit.
The Bible: More Than a Blanket
Too often, we treat the Bible like a comfort blanket—something we grab when we’re in trouble—when in fact it’s meant to be our sword. Scripture is alive, active, and sharper than any double-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12). It’s not just for comfort; it’s for battle.
God’s Word in the Storm
The storms of life are unavoidable. But storms have a strange beauty—they reveal sides of God’s character that we don’t always see when everything is sunny. His Word becomes our safe place, our strength, and our direction when everything around us feels chaotic.
And here’s the challenge: the storm doesn’t get to decide the outcome—you do. Will it push you closer to God, or pull you away?
How Jesus Faced the Storm
In Matthew 4:1–11, Jesus Himself was tested in the wilderness. The enemy came at Him with three tactics:
- Confusion – “Did God really say? Can He really provide?”
- Accusation – “If you are the Son of God…”
- Deception – “I’ll give you all this if you bow down to me.”
And notice—Satan even used Scripture to try and twist the truth. But every time, Jesus stood firm and answered with: “It is written.”
The devil knows God’s Word. That’s why we need to know it better.
God vs. the Enemy
Where the enemy confuses, God brings clarity and direction.Where the enemy accuses, God speaks identity.
Where the enemy deceives, God gives us truth.
The Word of God isn’t optional—it’s the greatest weapon we have.
What Happens When We Read the Bible
Research shows that people who read their Bible four or more times a week experience real change:
- 30% drop in loneliness
- 32% drop in anger issues
- 40% drop in bitterness in relationships
- 57% drop in alcohol misuse
- 60% drop in feeling spiritually stuck
- 60% drop in pornography use
- 20% increase in sharing faith
- 200% increase in discipling others
God’s Word truly transforms us.
Building on the Rock
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
And in Matthew 7:24–27, Jesus tells us that the wise person builds their house on the rock—not sand—so that when the storm comes, the house stands.
So let’s not wait for the storm to start building. Let’s make it daily, keep it fresh, and don’t stop.
Because when the winds blow and the rain falls, the one thing that will hold you steady is God’s Word.
3 Ways to Build on the Word This Week
- Read it daily – Even if it’s just one psalm, one proverb, or one chapter—consistency builds strength.
- Speak it out loud – When temptation or doubt comes, do what Jesus did: declare “It is written.”
- Apply it immediately – Don’t just read—ask, “What is God showing me today, and how can I live it out?”
